Wedding Style FAQs

Answers to the most common questions.

What should the groom wear for a wedding?

The groom typically wears a tuxedo or a refined suit that sets him apart slightly from the groomsmen - whether through a different color, lapel style, or accessories. Our stylists can help coordinate the whole look.

Should groomsmen match the groom exactly?

They don't have to. Many wedding parties have groomsmen coordinate while the groom stands out with a different jacket color, lapel, or accessory. You can match exactly or mix styles - whatever suits your vision.

What is the difference between black tie and formal wedding attire?

Black tie means a tuxedo, bow tie, and formal shirt. Formal wedding attire is slightly more flexible - a dark, well-tailored suit and tie can work - but a tuxedo always fits a black tie wedding.

Can wedding guests wear a tuxedo?

For a black tie wedding, yes - a tuxedo is appropriate for guests. For less-formal weddings, a well-tailored suit is usually the better fit; check the invitation's dress code.

How do I match ties or vests to bridesmaid dresses?

Order free BLACKTIE swatches and compare them to the dresses in natural light. Our stylists can also suggest coordinating ties and vests based on the designer and color.

When should we order wedding suits or tuxedos?

Order several weeks before the wedding to allow time for delivery, trying everything on, and any alterations or size replacements. Check current delivery estimates before ordering. Standard shipping is free on qualifying U.S. orders of $99 or more.

Can BLACKTIE help coordinate the whole wedding party?

Yes. Between our free Wedding Suit Planner and our stylists, we help coordinate looks, colors, and sizing for the groom, groomsmen, fathers, and guests.
